Description:
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic progressive disease. It is the most common neurological cause of disability among young adults, with a prevalence of approximately one million cases throughout the United States. Although there is still no cure for MS, many advances in MS treatment have arrived in recent years, allowing patients to manage these symptoms and improve their quality of life. Effective and timely treatment of MS can greatly improve the quality of life in MS patients. With the advancement and complexity of different treatment options, including therapies that have recently become available, managed care professionals are being challenged to make informed decisions in their organizations and provide the correct treatment options that are available to patients.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss key economic challenges surrounding management of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and the need for more optimal medical intervention to reduce healthcare costs

  • Explore the evolving role of new and emerging CD20-directed and S1P therapeutics in the management of MS, including managed care considerations around these therapies

  • Employ treatment optimization approaches to balance costs with improved outcomes in MS management

  • Integrate utilization management and benefit design strategies for MS therapies to enhance clinical and economic outcomes for patients with MS

  • Identify practices that managed care professionals can take to help improve outcomes, mitigate disease progression and ensure appropriate and timely access to disease-modifying therapies for MS
