Peter Alan Benn, PhD Professor, Genetics and Genome Sciences University of Connecticut Health Center Peter Alan Benn, PhD, is a tenured professor and laboratory director at the University of Connecticut Health Center. Rajat Deo, MD Assistant Professor of Medicine University of Pennsylvania Rajat Deo, MD, MTR is a cardiac electrophysiologist at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. His clinical interests focus on the care and management of patients with atrial fibrillation. Philip Friedlander, MD, PhD Assistant Professor of Medicine Hematology and Medical Oncology Mount Sinai Hospital Dr. Friedlander received medical school training at Columbia University where he obtained his MD and PhD degree in Biology. He investigated in non-melanoma skin cancers novel therapeutic strategies such as hedgehog signaling pathway inhibition in advanced basal cell carcinoma. He is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in psoriasis, clinical epidemiology, drug safety, and clinical trials. Dr. Gelfand is the author of over 100 scientific publications (cited over 9000 times, H index 43) which appear in journals such as JAMA, BMJ, European Heart Journal, Annals of Rheumatology, JAMA Dermatology, JAAD, and the JID. David Sontag, PhD Assistant Professor, Computer Sciences, New York University Dr. Sontag is an Assistant Professor in NYU's Computer Science department, part of the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. His research focuses on machine learning and probabilistic inference. His group is particularly interested in machine learning problems motivated by clinical medicine. For example, they are developing algorithms to learn probabilistic models for medical diagnosis directly from unstructured clinical data, automatically discovering and predicting latent (hidden) variables. His team collaborates with the Emergency Medicine Informatics Research Lab at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and with Independence Blue Cross. Previously, he was a post-doc at Microsoft Research New England. His PhD is in Computer Science from MIT, where he worked with Tommi Jaakkola on approximate inference and learning in probabilistic models. Dr. Sontag received his bachelor’s degree is from UC Berkeley, in Computer Science, where he worked with Stuart Russell's First-Order Probabilistic Logic group. |

Richard G. Stefanacci, DO, MGH, MBA, AGSF, CMD Faculty, Thomas Jefferson University School of Population Health Dr. Stefanacci has focused his career on care improvement of at risk populations through innovative care delivery. His expertise in this area comes in part from serving as the American Geriatric Society (AGS) Health Policy Scholar at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). He remains active with CMS currently serving on a technical advisory committee examining changes to Medication Therapy Management (MTM). Today after spending a decade as Associate Professor at the University of the Sciences, home of the oldest college of pharmacy in the United States; Dr. Stefanacci moved his academic affiliation to Thomas Jefferson University School of Population Health in Philadelphia, PA. His managed care experience includes more than a decade as a medical director for various organizations, including a large primary care private practice, a full-risk provider group, and several geriatric managed care organizations. Currently, Dr. Stefanacci continues clinical practice with the Program All-inclusive Care of the Elderly (PACE). |

Gillian Woollett, MA, DPhil Senior Vice President Avalere Health Gillian Woollett, MA, DPhil, is the Senior Vice President of Avalere Health, leading our FDA Practice. She provides the "prequel" of scientific and regulatory strategic policy expertise that supports medicinal products gaining approval at the FDA in a manner that allows them to be successful in the public and private reimbursement world. She is building a bridge for Avalere clients from the FDA space into the traditionally separate Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and healthcare policy/business world. Prior to joining Avalere, Gillian was Chief Scientist at Engel & Novitt, LLP, and was Vice President, Science and Regulatory Affairs at the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO). She joined BIO after being Associate Vice President at the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America. She has been an appointee on federal advisory committees to the CDC and the Department of Commerce. Trained as a molecular biologist/immunologist, Gillian publishes in peer-reviewed literature on biotechnology topics, and is a frequent speaker on emerging biosciences and their ability to support better and more focused therapies. Gillian has a BA, MA in the Natural Sciences Tripos (Biochemistry) from the University of Cambridge, and a DPhil in Immunology from the University of Oxford. |

R. Scott Wright, MD, FACC, FESC, FAHA Professor of Medicine Mayo Clinic Dr. R. Scott Wright is a Professor of Medicine and a Consultant in Cardiology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. His work at Mayo Clinic has focused on Acute Coronary Syndromes, Preventive Cardiology and Clinical Trial design and research. Dr. Wright graduated with his bachelor’s degree and his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Kentucky and did his post-medical school training in Internal Medicine, Clinical Investigation and Fellowship in Cardiovascular diseases at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Professor Wright has authored over 100 original articles and book chapters in the field of cardiovascular medicine. He has worked on a large number of clinical trials and has been a member of the Steering Committee of many of them. He has chaired an Institutional Review Board at Mayo Clinic for many years and also chairs the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Cardiovascular Task Force. Professor Wright has been active in a number of medical organizations including serving as a Delegate to the American Medical Association in the 1990’s and serving on the Board of Trustees of the Minnesota Medical Association. He has led the most recent ACC/AHA Guidelines Task Force for Update on Unstable Angina/Non-ST Myocardial Infarction. Dr. Wright has also been active in his community. He was appointed by the Governor of Minnesota in 2007 to serve on the Health Care Transformation Task Force. He has served as a health care policy advisor to two members of Congress in the recent past as well as testified previously before the United States Senate on policy issues. He has been an invited speaker on health care policy by governments in Asia and the USA. He and his wife have four children and make their home in Rochester, Minnesota. |
